PLEASE Need HELP!

Ok my sister just brought her HP Pavilion N5490 notebook
home for me to look at becuase she says it wasn't
working...so i turn on the notebook and then it goes to a
black screen and says operating system not found. I have
no idea what to do so if anyone can help me get it up and
running again thanks.

If it says operating system not found it means there is NO operating system
on the hard drive.

Boot with a floppy and see if the hard drive is still functioning.
