Windows ME error message appears, can't access internet

When i turn on my computer, 2 error messages appear & my
desktop is missing most of the icons. The error messages
read: validation failed forC:\Windows\System\VSINIT.dll
and validation failed for
C:\Windows\System\Zonelabs\VSMON.exe when i click on
the "start" button, nothing happens & there is no icon for
accessing my DSL server.

The problems you are seeing are with Zone Alarm which is why you cannot access
the net. I'm not sure though why problems in loading ZA are causing your
desktop not to load correctly or your Start button not to work.

Can you boot to SafeMode? If so try reinstalling Zone Alarm.
