For years I haven't had to provide my password to enter
windows. Now, for the past few weeks, I've been asked for
a password to log-on. How do I put password in memory as
it used to be??

Len:

You can also select one and use it, if you want to.

Harry.

You might find this KB article helpful:-
"How to Prevent a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me Logon Prompt at
Startup"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;152104

When it comes to setting up again, then if you no longer want a password,
enter a name but do not enter any password at all, then click OK.
DO NOT "cancel".

HTH and good luck

Mart

Here I thought, that the cause of this was the latest critical update by =
microsoft. But, lo and behold, it can be fixed.
Thanks to the helpful link you submitted below, Mart.
It took me a few tries, but finally I was successful.
Hopefully Len will read this too.
Thanks a million.

Harry.

You're welcome Harry and thanks for your feedback.

I can't confirm that a critical update is the cause - not happed on my box
anyway! - but this KB article 'usually' fixes *most* log-on/password issues.
However, I have noticed lately that Noel has been posting "Try uninstalling
the Family Logon - Add/Remove Programs|Windows Setup" as an alternative to
resolve similar password issues. So it might be worth noting and keeping
both solutions for future reference.

I only posted that one once, Mart! - and that was specifically because the
OP was finding that the damn Family Logon insisted that it was the way to
go.....

Apologies Noel, I'd also seen it (or very similar) elsewhere a week or two
back and 'assumed' it was yours. (Never assume!! <g>)
