Thanks Tom.......finally got it downloaded and see many differences, but
still playing with it!! Trying to find the d/l spot was the major problem.

That website is the WORST one I have ever encountered......I think I will
write and tell them so.....grin. I have used it for 3 or 4 years and they
never seem to think of letting their customers know when a new version is
out....(shaking my head!!)

I really do think that we *loyal customers* should get it for half price or
free next time, seeing as they are handing it out to everyone else for
nothing. Or is that my Scottish 'frugality' coming out, lol.

Cheers......Heather

I've got to go and get mine yet but I know what you mean about the site,
and I even have the notifications on but haven't had anything about a new
engine <g>
I'm just wondering what it will say when I get my renewal notice at the
beginning of next month about the price, I know I've not paid more than
$9.99 so far <g>
Joan
PS. Might even wait until it's time to renew before getting the new
version.

Joan......instead of renewing, why not download the free one. Or use it
from the MS CD. And leave the Zone Alarm off. Mine doesn't renew till
September 11th, but I could d/l the freebie from the MS website earlier, I
guess.

It kind of irks that they give it out to the world free, but we pay for
renewal......but just 'kind of'. It is a good program but I hate their
website coz you go round and round. If it wasn't 4 meg, I would send it to
you, grin.

Cheers.....Heather

I've just downloaded it Heather and it wasn't too bad just went into my
history and clicked the download button on my active one, but haven't run
it yet to upgrade my version, I'll leave that until tomorrow <g> I'll be
logging off in a minute when I finished catching up with the posts and
back to my cross stitch for a bit before bed. <g>

Hi, Heather,

You're right about the less than easy access to the download. It's not
readily obvious. If you have the time, definitely write to let them know.
I got a copy from one of the ftp sites about a month ago. I thought I was
installing a beta release, but the version I have is the same as the GA
release. I like that they've added email scanning to the real-time monitor.

I don't think CA would mind if you used one of the free licenses that they
offer, especially with the EZ AntiVirus distribution on the MS Security CD.
When I installed this release, it gave me a full year on the license even
though I only had about nine months remaining on my current license. I did
a clean installation though, and this may account for the full year.

Regards,
Tom

Not a bad idea, Tom. I have the CD here. And I will write them about it
mainly because I find them really good to deal with and it is to their
benefit if we point it out. I could smack that *Sammy* at times...grin.

My "infamous brother-in-law" couldn't figure out how to transfer it to his
new computer, so bought McAfee instead.......groan!! He is having mega
problems with McAfee.......it won't download if there is a virus email in
the lot. And no, I can't get him to find 'settings' to change stuff.

Cheers.......Heather

I just downloaded ver 2.0 of ezarmor. It says to deinstall the old one
first. Since I'm running the MS free one which I downloaded, will the
license key work? Also is there a way to retain my firewall setting. I've
been using the ezarmour version with no problems so far..
Glad you posted this link since I was unable to find the upgrade on their
website. I've been happy with their support so far, I started using ezarmour
in December. Replace Norton Systeworks, what an improvement, no more system
problems caused by the norton package.

As far as I know, the license should work. I use EZ Antivirus with the
latest version of ZoneAlarm rather than the EZ Armor package, which
incorporates an earlier version of ZoneAlarm. Since installing EZ Armor
requires uninstalling the earlier version, your firewall settings will most
likely not be retained.

I've just done the upgrade on mine and it didn't ask to uninstall the old
one first, I just set it running and it installed with no problems and the
license key was already filled in for me. It got the lastest sig files
during the install then did a full system scan, I then just had to restart
the computer to finish off <g>
Joan
PS: I am running the paid for version though so don't know whether that
makes a difference with the license.

Inline response on eTrust EZ AV v.6.2 :

TomV wrote:

> New! Advanced Email Scanning

It can NOT scan compressed emails as it claims. However, it does not
slow downloading of emails, cause issues with the server, or corrupt
server settings as other AV programs (re: NORTON) do/will .

It is an improvement on v.6.1 .

Not only can it not scan compressed emails, it can not scan
compressed archives 10 layers deep as it claims.

Furthermore, the Automatic Update feature is not as reliable as in
v.6.1 . It does download smaller def files when it *can*, though.

Overall, a disappointing version , to put it mildly.
Only should be used by Advanced users who practice "safe hex".
Definitely NOT for beginners or novice users.

Personally I still prefer and use the v6.0 series (6.0.125). Much better than
6.1 and also 6.2 which appear to be more like the former InoculateIT.

Mow,

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe you should pass your findings along to
Computer Associates. I can't comment on the scanning of compressed archives
and emails since I've not tested it. Regarding the AutoDownload though,
I've had no identifiable problems. I have it set to check every four hours,
and it's been keeping the definitions updated for a month without my
intervention.

Tom,

I did test it for CA and they would NOT listen to my feedback. Just
tried to update 6.1 this AM and had to do it manually ... YMMV.
Seems they've picked up a number of new customers with their
free 12 month subscription offer in conjunction with MS and their
servers are not able to handle the larger load.
Let's hope it's a temporary situation . Funny, I've been testing v.6.2
and they never informed me that it's been released ... NOT a good sign.
In fact , it's "Symantec-like" ;)

Hi Mow, one thing I have noticed with the new release is that it is very
quick at updating definitions.

With this being a point release, there definitely wasn't a lot of fanfare or
notification about the release. If I were a beta tester though, I would
have expected to receive some type of notice about the release. I hope
there were some valid reasons for this and not as you suggest an indication
of "Symantec-like" behavior.
