Hi,
I just had a similar problem. The cause turned out to be a Java plugin
conflict/corruption. I found 2 Java plugins in Control Panel, I disabled
the older one and updated the newer one. IE now works fine although
Netscape 7.1 is still a bit flaky.
Good Luck,
Gary

Thank you for your help.
It happens NOT only when online. Sometimes it freezes 5-
10 minutes or 1-2 hours after running Windows98SE.
My desktop is a HP Pavilion 8620 bought in 2000.
I've tried to change the RAMs (2x128MB), but it still
happens all the same.

Best regards
mt

Thank you for your timely information. I will check my
Java plugin which was downloaded not long ago.

Best regards.

Thank you.
I've checked my pc's Config.sys by running MSCONFIG. It's
empty. It seems that this file is NOT used in win98SE.
Regards.

In run menu type Notepad c:\config.sys (Say yes if ask create new
file) Put the following lines in the config.sys Save Changes and
reboot

device=C:\windows\himem.sys
device=c:\windows\emm386.exe ON RAM
Lastdrive=Z
Files=20
Buffers=20

Check that the processor is not overheating, and that the fans and heatsinks are
clear of dust and dirt, along with everything else inside the computer case.

Does it freeze if you boot into Safe Mode?

Everything inside the pc case is clear of dust and dirt
and the pc side cover is uninstalled all the time. It
freezes from time to time just as before. It also freezes
in Safe Mode.
It now seems OK after spending the whole afternoon to
reinstall Win98SE through running C:\windows\options\cabs
SETUP.
7 hours have passed, it does work fine till now.

Thank you everyone of you who are kind enough to help me
in solving this problem. Thank you!
