View Full Version : RAM not Recognized

I had windows 98 SE with 64MB RAM and I purchased a 128MB
RAM upgrade to 192MB. Everything worked fine until last
week I reinstalled my Windows 98 SE and the system now
only recognizes 64MB only. I had checked the memory slots
on the motherborad and they all worked fine. The "Limit to
merory" in the Msconfig was also unchecked. Is there
anything I should do to get my 128MB RAM back? Any help
would be appreciated. Thanks.

What amount of RAM is reported by BIOS at startup?

What happens if you use the computer with just the new 128 mb RAM
module installed?

Hi Ron;

If I just use the new 128MB only, the computer will not
boot. When I put back the 64MB back and restart, the
computer will go straight to the start-up menu and mention
something about the "PCI Ratio".

Hi Jeff;

The RAM reported in the BIOS is 64MB.

If BIOS doesn't see it, Windows won't.

You should check that both modules are seated properly and the contacts are
clean. Try booting with just one module, or with the modules inserted in
different slots. It's possible that one module has failed.

Did you re-install Windows because you were getting lots of errors?

That indicates that the new 128mb is either defective or at least is
incompatible with your motherboard.

What is the make and model of your motherboard? Have you checked the
factory specs for it to see if it supports 128 mb modules? Some older
boards do not.

Good luck
