View Full Version : HELP! No Sound

After months of listening to mp3's and CD's, my sound card
just stopped working. When I open an audio application and
try to play a sound file I get the message: "Cannot open
the audio device. Another application may be using
it." This message appears on all audio applications. In
fact, I get NO sounds at all on the computer, no beeps,
dings, etc.

I've tried uninstalling and installing the soundcard
software (SoundBlaster Live 5.1) I've checked sysedit (as
someone suggested) for any conflicts. I've checked the
Startup folder (as someone suggested) for any problems.
Nothing works!

SoundBlaster dianostics give me this:
Hardware Detection Test Pass

Software Test Result
Wave Driver Test Fail
MIDI Driver Test Fail
Mixer Driver Test Fail
DirectSound Test Fail
DirectSound3D Test Fail
SoundFont Setting Test Pass
Mixer Settings Check Fail

I sent Creative a email, but they haven't responded yet.

Help! I need my music!

>.Had same problem with mine, lost sound at least three
times, had to remove sound devices in system
properties, then reinstall with add new hardware tool, then
update drivers, then go to control panel multimedia and
screw around untill I got it back. I still don't know what
causes this but it seems to happen when my daughter is
playing gaames from a disc.
