Please restate your question in clearer terms--what exactly do you want to
do?

My system specs are win 98 OS, pentium III processor, 576MB ram, 12g
HDD. When I boot up my machine, it uses the selective startup in
msconfig. I have no autoexec.bat file in msconfig. My question is:
Which is better/quicker for smoother operation? Why does my system use
selective startup instead of the autoexec.bat file and what are the
reasons for choosing either one over the other?

John,

I don't know why it is using selective start up--try resetting it to normal
start up. Autoexec.bat is not required by W98--other older programs may use
it but it is not essential for start up purposes.
