Two weeks ago I tried to install an Intellipoint wheel
mouse. I used a PS/2 to Serial adapter to connect. I could
not get this to work, so I uninstalled the software and
went back to my old serial mouse. Everything was back to
normal. Yesterday, two weeks later, I turned my computer
on and the mouse does not work at all! I checked the
Device Manager to see the mouse status and there is no
mouse listed in the Device Manager! I did absolutely
nothing in the past two weeks to have this problem. I did
not remove any drivers or anything like that. HELP!

Shut down the computer and unplug the mouse again. Check for bent pins.
Replug in the mouse and reboot.
Sometimes the cable connecting the mouse goes bad at the mouse connection
point. Try gently bending it back and forth a little to see if it
momentarily works. If so, a new mouse is in order.
Also, if you do make it into Windows and can negotiate, go into Device
Manager and see how many 'mouse' are listed under the Mouse catagory. Delete
all except for the one you are using.
