Stuck in Safe Mode

When I start up my computer, it is taking me to the
Windows 98 Start Up Menu. If I try to enter "1" for normal
mode, it runs ScanDisk and then takes me back to the
Windows 98 Start Up menu. The only way for me to get to my
desktop is via Safe Mode.

I have checked for many possible problems using
Microsoft's Knowlwedge Base but nothing seems to be wrong
yet I can't get out of Safe Mode.

What should I do?

Thanks to Ron Badour for the suggestions; neither solved
my problem unfortunately. Think I will now try re-
installing Windows 98. Thanks again.
