I have Windows 98 Second Edition. When I'm getting ready
to shut down my computer or restart...I get an error
message. YOU HAVE PERFORMED AN ILLEGAL OPERATION;
EXPLORER CAUSED AN INVALID PAGE FAULT IN MODULE
KERNEL32.DLL @ 0167:bff76840. When I click details and
then OK...my computer tries to shut down, but then it
locks up. I have run SCAN DISK and DISK DEFRAGMENT and I
still have the problem. Any ideas how I can fix this? I
would really appreciate any help. Thank you!! :)

See MVP Jim Eshelman's Shutdown Troubleshooter web pages at

involving Kernel32.dll at http://aumha.org/win4/a/kernel32.htm

Good luck
