View Full Version : Slow in Windows Explorer

MS-OFFICE XP

I have noticed my pc is slow to respond in Windows Explorer when I change from one folder to another. For example, when
I click navigate from one to another it can take about seven seconds for the contents of the folder to display (egg
timer is shown until then).

I have defragmented, but it still happens.

Any advice much appreciated.

TIA

Steve

How many folders and sub-folders are there in your "My Documents" folder?
Try moving all the files and folders out of the "My Documents" folder, into another
folder on the C: drive with a different name, which you can create.

Thank you so much for your wisdom!!! I have been fighting
this for years, and only now have I found a soution that
actually works!! I have a new folder in C: called My
Docs. I pointed all the shortcuts, etc. to this new
folder and am using it without any of the previous
slowness.

Thanks again, you have saved my fingers from being bitten
off from the tips down!!

-Rich

Glad it helped you.
I was using a folder of my own making, similar to your C:\My Docs, since before
Windows had a My Documents special folder, so when it was introduced, I continued to
use my own folder, re-creating it on each machine I used.
