I went to Maxtor website and ran the disk Dignos program. It reported back that the disk was fine and all is normal. When I run Belarc, it to reports the disk is SMART (or Ok). Is there anything else that I can try? Once again, I have a Compaq Deskpro EN 733mhz, (Bios year is 2000), IE6, MSN9, Nvidia Graphic AGP, 40gigHD, SoundPro Audio. Thanks for all of your help.

I still suspect the drive is damaged. Try contacting Maxtor or
Compaq for assistance. Or, you can just live with it until it dies
and replace it at that time.
