I am in need of further assistance in bringing the above
system back to life after the Hard Drive was wiped. At
this point I have succeeded only in getting a C: prompt
after FDISK, FORMAT /S, & Partioning Drives. I have no
problem reading the floppy A: drive.

In order to install the OS I will need to install CD
drivers. To install CD Drivers Do I need WINDOWS up and
running. The drivers come from DELL in an extratable
compressed file format. The generic drivers do not work.
Must be DELL's proprietory mark.

I have received an ERROR MESSAGES as follows:

*NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND

*DEVICE DRIVER NOT FOUND: MSCD001
NO VALID CDROM DEVICE DRIVERS SELECTED

I would appreciate any advice what-so-ever.

I am having difficulty loading WIN 95/98 OS to a used DELL
Latitude CPx. The hard drive had been wiped and I am
starting from new. Can anyone help with the sequencing of
loading this?

I have a WIN 98 Startup disk and the Operating System CD.

I tried loading after booting with the startup disk and I
am now at a C:/ prompt. It does not recognize the CD-ROM
drive.

If you are familiar with this particulr model it has the
interchangeable CD-ROM and floppy disk drives. Thanks in
advance!

You're kidding - a generic Win98 boot floppy doesn't work?? I think yours
is just like the CD drives I swap around between CP, CPi, and C600 systems,
and they all work just fine from a Win98 boot floppy. Do you have both the
floppy and CD drive installed at the same time (the floppy attached via
cable to the parallel port)?

The "no operating system" error suggests your problem is not really the CD
driver, but I'm not sure why you're getting that *and* the "device driver
not found" error. Are you booting from the floppy or the hard drive when
you get that msg?

Start the computer with a boot floppy, type "fdisk /status",
press "Enter" and look for "C:" in the "Drv" column. If you
don't see it, the boot drive probably needs to be partitioned
(fdisk.exe) and formatted(format.com).
