I'm trying to re-format my w98 hard drive by right
clicking the C: drive and clicking format. Once I do this
I get the following message:

Windows cannot format this drive because it contains
files in use by windows.

It doesn't tell me which files or how to fix this. If
anyone knows a solution that would be great.

No, you can't format the C: drive while Windows is running. Boot from a
bootable floppy diskette and FORMAT C: from there.
