have compaq presario 1692-have been printing off this pc-recieved message
printer not installed-tried installing and message came up USB not
installed-went to install printer in start menu under settings-message came
up to install windows 98 second edition CD-ROM-dont have disc and am wanting
to know if problem can be fixed before i purchase another disc.. thanks

There are many maintenance tasks that require the installation CD.

Check whether the W98 installation files have been copied to the hard drive.
They may be in a folder called Options. Look for a folder with a number of
files with the filename extension CAB.

There are many maintenance tasks that require the installation CD.

This is significant (assuming you have a USB printer)

Have you reset your bios recently or changed your cmos battery?

If so, some machines will default to having USB disabled...not sure about
Compaq.
At any rate, hit F10 while booting and be sure USB is enabled in the BIOS...
