Have installed win98 SE automatically over the cd, then after installing
all drivers, i found out that it's a FAT system, not FAT32, so windows
installed it with the FAT system. Showing only 1.6GB of HDD space, where
and how could i get the another 4GB, and how to use it ?

Is partition Magic helpfull in this situ ?

Assuming this is a new install, why don't you reformat it in FAT32 and start
all over again, THIS time with FAT32?

W98 SE has a utility that will convert the partition to FAT32, but will not
expand it. FDISK can create a logical partition in the unused area, but
it's too easy to accidentally delete the existing partition.

Partition Magic will convert the FAT partition and also safely expand it
into the unused area of the disk.

PM will also allow you to create a new extended partition in the unused part
of the disk in which you could create a logical drive. It would become Drive
D. Some people prefer to use separate system and data drives.

Thanks but I already did it...first tried with fdisk that worked
patially , saw the drive-partition but couldn't use it, so i formated it
from the system FAT16 in which i was working in, and succedded to format
it to FAT32, amazingly. So now i have mix FAT16 + FAT32. It' working for
now, but don't know about viability, that's next to find out :)

Coverting i.e. reinstalling, ;(
Now is ok, i'm luckily happy =)

Not so familiar with expanding...

Having FAT16 and FAT32 coexist probably will not cause any
disasters but it's most /inelegant/.

There are SO many free partition tools out there that you should
get one and do things right. Converting a FAT16 to FAT 32 is
very simple, but if I were you I would start all over with your
HD manuf's low-level format utility (bet ya didn't), and then
fdisk and format the partitions - it'll take you less than an
hour and you'll have a machine set up the way it /should/ be.

FWIW, for a 6GB drive with 98SE I'd recommend three partitions
of 2 GB each. Or a 2GB C and 4 x 1GB.

Bill, why would th OP want to do that.
That would take less than an hour when they can screw around for hrs or even
days trying to do it without formatting and fdisking.
Merry Christmas :)
Buffalo
PS: I thought it was a choice of FAT16 or FAT32, I wasn't aware of just
plain FAT.

FAT and FAT16 are the same. It's just that FAT32 wasn't anticipated when
FAT16 was created, so the 16 wasn't necessary and wasn't used.

Got it. Thanks!
Have some fun on this Holiday.
Buffalo
PS: I guess Partition Magic will work just fine then.

Not to forget FAT12, the filesystem used on very small volumes like
1.44MB floppies.
