I am trying to use the Windows 98 DOD-PROMPT but I cannot find it
where they say to look....

1. Run a MS-DOS prompt (Start > Programs > MS-DOS prompt)

Is there another way of accessing it because I cannot find it and I
have looked all over the place?

Thanks

It is as glee & Zabcar said. Also, to get your shortcut back...

(1) "START button, Find, F/F, Command.com".
At least two will be found.
(2) R-Clk either "Command.com" in the Find window,
& select "Create Shortcut". You will get a message asking
whether to put the shortcut on the Desktop. Click "yes".
(3) Close the find window, & go to the Desktop.
You will see a new shortcut on the Desktop named "MS-DOS Prompt".

You may R-Drag & drop that shortcut onto the QuickLaunch bar. You may
also R-Drag & drop it into the START menu. Just keep holding the R-Mouse
button as you point to the START button, the Programs choice, & over
into the slot you want it. When you release the button, you will get
choices what to do-- including to cancel! That's what I like best about
the R-Mouse button!

That's one way. But, I think she means she wants a one-click method. Do
this: Open up C:\WINDOWS folder. Scroll down below the yellow folders. You
should see a MSDOS icon named "dosprompt" (underlined). Minimize the window
you're in. Right-click on the icon and drag and drop it to the Desktop.
Then click on "Copy here." That's where mine stays. I use DOS frequently
so I need it right there at my fingertips. It works like a charm.

The DOS window can be added easily to the Start menu
structure because c:/windows/start menu is a folder like
any other, viz. contents can be cut, pasted, moved, etc.
The installation default is probably to show a DOS prompt
in c:/windows/start menu/ programs. If no shortcut (LNK
file) for MS-DOS can be found anywhere in this folder,
the user can simply create a new one (as Glee showed)
and put it wherever she wants. Mine is directly in c:/windows/start menu
along with Wordpad and a few apps used every day, just above
/Accessories
/ Programs
/ Control Panel
and so on.

I wonder if there are any more advanced dosprompt-application
for windows98? something that take advantage of Windows...
When not in fullscreen allow resizing of the window to
have custom number of columns and rows, and perhaps a go-to-folder
dropdown to the right in the button bar. windows-helpsystem
for doscommands, scrollbar, easy set of colors?

hehe you have the same setup as me :-)
(and then all the other programs above dosprompt)
microsoft should have put Accessories-folder directly in startmenu
instead of under Programs as default IMHO
