View Full Version : Blank toolbar boxes, freezing and flashing, no labs.

December 2nd 08, 04:55 AM
Ok, I am running Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 on Windows Vista. As a preface,
I disabled all Labs (which I didn't even know about beforehand),
deleted a big portion of my inbox, (I didn't know if it would help or
not) and I looked through all the known problems and found only this
as a somewhat similar problem. I know for sure that is is Gmail
causing the problem because this only occurs when it is open, even on
a tab. Any time it is open every tool bar box, every right click,
every roll-over, is blank. Even on a different tab/website/window. I
know that it is trying to appear because the box shadowing is lining
the right side and bottom of the box. That is the worst part.
Otherwise anytime it is open and when I try to minimize Firefox the
minimize button just flashes randomly. Same with the exit button. I
have to run task manager every time I close out. Any pages that are
still loading freeze unless you move the courser around constantly. It
slows everything down in general. Without Gmail open everything is DSL
fast and perfect. I would love to have this fixed. Please let me know!

Thank you much, Hayden

If you know for sure it is gmail causing the problem, contact google. Also
this is a win98 ng, not Vista, post any Vista issues to the appropriate Vista
ng.

Was this a refresh of the query?

Okay, here's what I have noticed regarding this issue.

I previously monitored the scripting being loaded during the GMAIL
experience [geeeeesssss I hate this junk being used on the NET] and found
some questionable scripts being loaded. I have yet to confirm whether all of
those were from Google or perhaps a hack or otherwise.

Here's what I would recommend.

DO NOT:
1. have chat enabled;
2. have Google Search enabled;
3. have IGoogle loaded;

DO:
1. use the older plain version of GMAIL.
2. update whatever browser you are using.
3. update JAVA.

DO this immediately:
1. Run an updated antivirus, anti-SpyWare/hack program. AND check for BHO
and other "helpers" you may have installed. Look carefully at what Browser
bars you may have installed.
2. Clean out ALL cached passwords, temp files, and other like items
INCLUDING cookies.
3. Check you firewall logs and Anti-Virus logs to see WHAT has been
occurring AND look at what you have allowed.
4. Make sure when you connect - that ALL scripting is allowed FROM *Google*
and all *outside* scripting/connection is blocked [except for cert].

Addendum:

Also, if using a tabbed browser, make sure you haven't left a tab *opened*
[that's even if not the present tab] to ANY questionable sites or sites
filled with advertising, Flash, and other like *enhancements* [grrr]. That
means LIMIT tabs when using Google mail.
