Hi:

I have a couple of programs that I wish to start up automatically when
I long on, and have them appear in the system tray (at the right hand
side bottom of the screen). I presently have them set to open in the
"minimize" bar (center bottom of the screen).

How do I open programs and tuck them in the system tray, please.

I am using windows XP sp3

Thanks in advance

John Baker

The programs have to have the capability to place an icon in the system
tray; otherwise you will need some help:
http://www.metaproducts.com/mp/TrayIcon_Pro.htm This program used to be
free a few years ago and I still have a copy that I can email you if you
contact me through my web site: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/

I assume you know how to start programs at boot by creating a registry entry
or putting a shortcut to the .exe file in the Startup folder on the start
menu.

Then why are you posting in a Win98-specific newsgroup? Try
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general instead.

My thoughts exactly, Robear. However, be warned there used to be quite a few
verbally abusive trolls back in the xp general newsgroup but hopefully the
majority of them have moved on to the windows vista general newsgroup.
Anyway, we try to focus on Windows 98 problems here and combine it with some
good humor now and then and we try to take the issues very seriously
especially since Microsoft now longer provides mainstream support for Windows
98 or Windows 98 Second Edition anymore. <smile>

I was posting here because I could not find the right XP group, and
had had good experience with the W98 group. Also, if something worked
in W98 it very likely that it would work in XP!

That said, thanks for the pointer I have posted there too.
