If you didn't reply to it, most of us would never see it.

Cease and desist, s'il vous plait.

Oh, just someone planting a link to a blog.

Your newsfeed probably does a better job of spotting/weeding that stuff
out than others' do.

I'm using Outlook Express most of the time!

However, using Google Groups (as recommended by AOL - my ISP) if I look here
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/microsoft.public.win98.general.discussion/topics?hl=en&lnk

I'm told "You cannot post messages because this group is only available as
an archive".

Any idea why ........... anyone?

This is not a Microsoft question, this is a Google question. Go ask THEM.

AOL *and* Google Groups? Disgusting!

OK - enjoy your day!

Please can you suggest why - when using OE6 (Microsft!) to read this group,
I did not/do not see the message to which the OP - Dan - replied.

TIA

If by "using OE6" you mean you logged on to msnews.microsoft.com, it was
removed from the Microsoft server by filter of some sort. I doubt anyone
could even tell you on what basis the post was deleted. It could have been
deleted for any reason or no reason at all, but in this case I can safely
deduce from Nigel's statements and the topic change, that Dan was answering
some pure SPAM and forgot to delete the included advertising.

No, Dan did delete the spam but he still replied to it, which is the
only reason anyone saw it. I suspect I only saw it because my ISP
sub-contracted its newsfeed earlier this year and the new suppliers'
filters aren't as good.

By "using OE6" I *did* mean logged on to msnews.microsoft.com (using OE6) -
as I've already mentioned, Google Groups will not allow me to post.

NO WAIT! This link
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion/browse_thread/thread/5a97f6eccb68ce3f?hl=en

is now *active* and would allow me to post. (scratches head!). However, if
you follow the link you will see that no-one has replied to Dan in the
thread - not even me. Ve...ery strange!

There is absolutely *no* reference to the message to which Dan (OP)
originally replied showing on this machine.

I find that strange too.

Can no-one provide a better explanation than those already given?

TIA

Dave

*Apology*

I've found the original SPAM - here: http://www.jagadhesh2020.blogspot.com/

Using Google there are TWO separate (but similar) groups.

2. http://groups.google.co.uk/group/microsoft.public.win98.general.discussion/topics?hl=en

I'm sorry to have persisted with this query - but there must always be
a reason for - well, everything! <wink!>
