I have deleted a lot of programs including Mcafee from
Add/Remove programs in cotrol panel but they are still
showing up in control panel. When I attempt to install
other applications or Norton to be specific, it tells me
that Mcafee is still installed when in fact is not. Is
there any type of application that would help me get rid
of those uninstalled application links if you will?
Thanks

If you actually deleted programs instead of uninstalling, that is the
problem--did you delete?

Where are the programs showing up in the control panel--in add-remove
programs?

What is the *specific* message you are receiving?

I removed the programs from the add-remove programs in
control panel. They are still showing up there. When I
click on one and click on remove again, it give
me "unable to locate intallation log file" message for
all except for Mcafee; it gives me " the feature you're
trying to use is on a network resource that's
unavailable". then it tells me to enter a path. It was
not on a network resource, it was local. Thanks

The add remove programs window is built with registry entries so to clean
out the bad entries, you either need to go into the registry and manually
remove them or you can use TweakUI, Add Remove tab. Tweak UI is available
from:
http://www.microsoft.com/NTWorkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp
Right-click the TweakUI.inf file and select install. Should a notice appear
saying a disk is required, click OK and another screen appears. Click
browse, go to the folder containing Tweak, OK and OK.

I don't know if this will clear up your problem with McAfee however.

That first error message is typical when an uninstall has been done but the
name remained in the registry. The second error message seems to be
affiliated with Office programs as well as McAfee. I looked for 20 minutes
and could not find anything specific to your circumstances. You might want
to look further by going to google.com and doing a search on: McAfee "The
feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable "

Hi,

You can probably get it to stop by removing the folder in Regedit
Start
Run..
"type" regedit <enter>
Navigate to
HKCU\software\ (look for the app and delete)
HKLM\software\ (look for the app and delete)

Hope this helps cure you problem...
If you are not sure, you can right mouse the folder you are going to nuke
and export it to the desktop, where it can be replaced, if you have any
adverse effects.

good computing,
don
