I have installed Windows 98 upgrade second edition over
the Windows 95 in my Compaq Armada V300.
I have 3 problems:
(1) I made the mistake of requiring a password each time I
try to use the computer; I am the only user and don't need
it, how can I get rid of it?
(2) I receive this message: "Network adaptor SMC IrCC
(0001) is not working properly. See network troubleshooter
in Windows Help.." I do not need or want networking at
all. I am computer-hostile and this thing knows it. Can I
just uninstall that part of the programming?
(3) I get this message: A fatal exception 06 has occurred
at 0022:00000017 the current application will be
terminated. Press any key
I'd like to fix these problems so the thing simply goes to
desktop without tending to these glitches... please tell
me how.
Thanks....Bob

1. Go to control panel, network, primary network logon and select Windows
Logon. Go to control panel, passwords, user profiles and ensure the "all
user's" box is marked. If you have a password established, go to control
panel, passwords, change windows password, type the password in the old box,
leave the rest blank and OK your way out. If you have forgotten your
password, delete the .pwl file with your user name (mine is ron.pwl);
however, be aware that you will lose all passwords stored in the .pwl file.
If you do not have a password established or have deleted the .pwl file,
when the W95/98 logon screen appears at boot, type a user name only and hit
OK. If the logon screen continues to appear and you have Tweak UI
installed, go to the Paranoia tab and remove the mark from "clear last
user."
2. Just guessing but it appears something is amiss with your infrared
controller. If you don't need it, check the BIOS and see if it can be
disabled.
