recently i bought an 80 GB HDD. after i had correctly installed every cable and set the jumpers the correct way i found that my computer could not see and name the new, unformated hard disk! how can i format this new hard disk? i have windows xp 2002. thank u in advance.

Did you get into BIOS and set it to auto w/ith regards to detecting the HDD
?

Did you use FDISK (or the utility diskette/CD) that came with the drive to
prepare it for holding data before starting Windows?

The drive will not be seen until it is partitioned. You do this using fdisk.
After being partitioned the drive will be seen (get a drive letter
assigned)the partition will need to be formatted prior to use.

Note: If when using fdisk you do not see the whole drive then try this MS
articel foir an fdisk update. (you may also use the utility that came with
the drive)
