Does anyone know how it is possible to stop the player
from automatically loading whenever an audio CD is
inserted? Thanks for any help on this SMP.

Install TweakUI, then run it from Control Panel.
Click the Paranoia tab, un-check the box for "Play audio CD's =
automatically".
Click OK.

TweakUI 1.33:

Either use TweakUI, or press and hold shift as you close the CD tray.

In Windows Media Player (I'm presuming you use 9
series ... but it'll work on 98's own as well):
1) Go to Tools > Options > Click on the file types tab.
2) Take the tick out of audio cd.
