I created some documents on my old computer in Windows 98.
I can't tell what version of word ( the old computer has
crashed)..I would assume it was the standard version that
came with windows 98...anyway..why can't I open the old
documents on my new computer that has Windows XP? Are they
not compatible? Help!

Win98 does not come with Word.
Perhaps you had some other application that you don't have on XP?
If you still have your installation media, then check through and see.

Word doesn't come with Windows. You'll have to install
Office again from your installation CD. Office XP 2002 is
the best version of Office. DOn't bother with Office
2003 ... it's cr*p!
