Hi, not sure if this is the right NG but here goes:
I have a Win98 machine which has AVG6 free edition on it, Due to a recent
known problem with older versions I decided to install a newer version.
Anyways after downloading the lates free version I run the *.exe file to
install, but after the initial system setup box, I get an error message
saying:

Visual Studio Installer Loader
The Loader did not find the Windows installer package C:\
Temp\Mailwasher.msi

Why in the hell does AVG want the said installer to load onto my win98
system???
I did have that file in the location specified above, but removed it.
I have removed the older version of AVG and rebooted, but still cannot
install the newer version

Help please

Thanks

Problems like these are often caused by the presence of prior, possibly
uncompleted, installation files on the system. Restart the computer, then
erase all files and folders in the \Windows\Temp folder (but DO leave the
Temp folder there!), then try installing your software again.

Thanks, but the fix was to move the AVG setup program out of the C:\temp
folder to anywhere else, and it installed from there.
I did remove all files and folders as you advised, but it still wanted a
*.msi file to install, and compalined it couldn't find the said file, so
closed down.

Sorted now thanks

The file you removed is a Windows system file, and plays
a vital part in installing many applications. You will
need to copy it back off another 98SE computer.

It is not a W98 file--it was probably part of the MailWasher spam program.
