Hi. My neighbor has a problem that when he runs disk
cleanup, it allows you to select which areas to clean,
but then when you go to actually do this, it
says "program has performed an illegal operation and will
be shutdown." Then it says "Cleanmgr caused an invalid
page fault in module <unknown> at 000:a00f9275."
Any ideas?
When he runs the maintenance wizard, it will also give
this fault, but will go on to perform Scandisk and Defrag
with no problem.
But we cannot get the cleanup part to function.

Disk Cleanup (Cleanmgr) has been known to cause some problems. Have your
neighbor run a manual Defrag *after* a fresh re-boot, and after emptying
the Recycle Bin, Temp Internet Files, Cookies, and the contents only of the
C:\Windows\Temp folder (not the folder itself, just the contents) Before
starting the defag, do a Ctrl-Alt-Del, and "End Task" on all processes
*except* Explorer and Systray. Now try running a Scandisk and/or Defrag.
Let us know how it goes.
HTH,
Curt
