Computer has no sound after uninstalling and reinstalling
Windows98 with Dell technician's help. Before
uninstalling, the computer had beautiful sound...now no
sound. Under Device Manager tab on System Properties, the
PCI Multimedia Audio Device had a yellow question mark so
the technician told me to click Remove. Is this why I
don't have any sound? Would uninstalling & reinstalling
require me to have a new Sound Card. Dell technician has
had me download a couple of different things even trying
to use the USB Audio Drive, but nothing has worked. Anyone
ever had this problem?

Go to start, run, type in CDPLAYER, and after putting in
an audio CD in the CD drive, hit OK. If you hear music,
then it's because of a new patch to windows and I'm having
that problem too. If you are NOT getting sound, then it
should be pretty easy to fix. Let us know...

I have a similar problem, but it didn't involve
uninstalling and reinstalling win98. I get the keyboard
beep on boot-up, but nothing else. No .wav sounds, no cd
music, even though the media player shows the cd is
spinning. It was working fine yesterday, then suddenly no
sounds, though I didn't change anything. I sure hope
somebody has an answer to this.

Hey guess what?

I am having the exact same problem. The thing is that it
says I have no PC cards installed, so I don't know what to
do, I hope I can find out what it is.

I have no sound on windows 98se Had sound but then for no
known reason sound went ( no sound at all ) My wife gets
audio/video C.D's from her open uni' study coarse and they
do not play the sound. USED A.S.D. in windows and the
sound was restored - for about one day that is!!! - all
the tunes and noises with the windows apps and stuff - now
nothing - EXCEPT in MSN messenger, if I use the audio
setup and click on test speaers then I get the test sound -
as loud as you like
Could someone help me get the sound working again and
explain what is going on
P.S have tried run cdplayer and was told the driver wasn't
there

I think you have lowered the sound volume of your sound player, or you have
muted its sound. But if this is not true, Try these ways:
1- If you have a "Mute" button on your key board, see if you haven't pushed
that key or you haven't changed the sound volume using keyboard buttons.

2- Double click on "SysTray" which is beside the clock. Then see if any of
the choices are muted.

3-
--Right-Click--> My Computer--> Properties--> Device Manager--One Click-->
Sound, Video and Game controlers--> Remove--"Are you Sure?"-->Yes-->OK
Then:
Restart your computer.

If this worked, please let me know.
