My older computer will not shut down by loging off windows from the start
menu. It just keeps coming back on. I can only shut it off by using the
main power source. The button on the pc will turn it on, but will not turn
it off. Is this a power button problem? Or a problems in windows? (I have
current NORTON antivirus, updated and scanned daily. Thank you for any help.

I am assuming you are running W98SE and, if so, run msconfig.exe, general
tab, advanced button. Mark the "Disable fast shutdown" box because it can
cause shutdown to work too fast and a reboot is the result. If the entry
does not exist or if it is already marked, MVP Jim Eshelman has general
troubleshooting procedures for W95/98/98SE shutdown problems at
http://www.aumha.org/a/shutdown.htm and procedures for W98SE in particular
at http://www.aumha.org/a/shtdwnse.htm

The power button should work--just hold it in until the PC shuts down.
