View Full Version : MFC42.DLL - in the wrong folder?

I am attempting to install a game on our Win98 system. We
have Direct-X 9 and all tests came out fine. When the
game (LOTR Return of the King) tries to start, I get a
Direct-X error. Checking my Direct-X, the only problem I
had was the MFC42.DLL was in the Windows folder and
should be deleted. Is this a wise thing to do, and is it
needed? Can it be moved to another folder without
headache or problems? Been eager to play this game, but
all we get is the title screen, and that's as far as it
goes. I can play other games on the system, just not that
one.

If you need more info, I will get it, I'm at work right
now, and don't have access to my system info.

Thanks!!!

No, don't delete it.
Move it to the System folder where it belongs.

Systems folder, OK, will try that, and let you know. Does
it matter that I have 2 hard drives as well? Our master
is only an 8g, with the operating system on it, and a few
other programs, while our 40g slave drive contains most
of my programs & files. We've had the same master drive
for over 4 years, and almost maxed out in space. The game
only allows me to install it on the main drive, and I
belive that is where my direct-x files are also, just a
thought!

Thanks again!

No, it doesn't matter that you have two drives. The System folder will
be on your drive with the operating system.
