View Full Version : Media Players are crashing 98

Just recently I have been having problems with my media players (WMP v.7,
MPclassic). Every time I load them and try to play a file, they hang and
then I must reboot windows. I've tried updating my video driver,
un-installing and re-installing the players and even restoring the registry
from a few days ago. I have all the most recent windows98 updates and the
most current IE/updates. Short of a windows over-install/repair can anyone
suggest a fix? Thanks.

Have you run recent scans with up to date antivirus and spyware programs?

Have you recently installed any third-party codecs for playing media types?

Just out of curiosity I installed wmp version 6.4 and the same happened.
Tried to load a video clip and it wouldn't, then when I tried to close the
app, system crashed.

What happened, exactly? Any error message? What? BSOD? What message?
Or did everything just become non-responsive?

If the later, you might try repairing Internet Explorer. Yes, I know
that it isn't germaine vis a vis media players but it is hooked in with
Windows Explorer which manages all sort of opening/closing, etc. You
can get at the repair option via MS System Information, Tools.

Everything just became unresponsive. I tried your suggestion of doing the IE
repair, but no luck. Same thing happened.

I suggest you pursue this in one of the mediaplayer groups.
