for the past 10 days i've been running the win updater and each time it says
i have 1 critical update KB828026. I run the update and each time the
file loads. But the next time i check for updates KB828026 reappears..

Any suggestions.

1. Boot into Safe Mode.
2. Search for any and all files named WMP.DLL and rename them (wmp.old will
do).
3. Re-boot into Normal Mode.
4. Re-download WMP9 and then KB828026 (NOT the 885492 update!).
5. Re-boot.
6. Check to see if the update is offered again - only the 885492 should be
offered, and you should take it.
7. Re-boot - and go back to Windows Update for any further updates
9. Check to see ifthe 828026 update is offered again

Thanks Noel,
We'll give it a try..
(recently had to reinstall the ME and associated programs after the
motherboard failed ((bad clocking xtal)) using dialup it takes several
"days" to get all the windows updates installed.)

Noel, did as you suggested. the following results occured.
safe mode, renamed WMP.DLL to WMP.old
restart downloaded WMP9 (took 90 minutes via dialup)
rebooted, downloaded KB828026 (took 15 minutes via dialup)
rebooted, KB885492 never offered at MS UpDater however did offer
KB911565 which we downloaded (took 12 minutes via dialup)
rebooted and rechecked, no updates offered at this time..
TKS
seems to have solved the orignal problem..
(Future note, is it recommended to always download oldest offered
updates first?)

TKS again,

Glad it's sorted
I hadn't realised that 911565 seems to have replaced 885492, so I'll have to
check that one out! -
In theory, Windows Updates should sort the updates into the right order for
install - in this case the 'sorted' order is wrong, and the later update
gets installed first, which blocks the earlier one (which contains more than
just the single file that 885492 contains).
If you're installing updates from a local, then yes, the best order is date
of release (NOT KB number order! - that's the date on which the project was
started)

Thanks Noel, we only update from MS Updater site unless directly from the
orignal manufacture of the software..
