View Full Version : 98SE update killed my network

For a long time I have had a nice simple wireless network with XP Home on
the main box and Win98 on my laptop.
Upgraded to 98SE on the laptop and have lost my local network to the XP box.
Wireless web TCP/IP works fine.
Neither the XP box or the 98SE box can "see" the other computer on the
network.
All network settings look normal.
I did re-run NetSetup on the 98SE box and no luck.

Workgroup names are good.
Firewalls were temporarily disabled for testing - but no luck.

Any ideas?
Regards,
Frank

Was there a firewall program on 98 before the upgrade? If so, it
might have become corrupted during the upgrade process. In that case,
don't just disable the firewall program on 98SE. Un-install it, then
go to Start | Run | Msconfig | Startup and disable any firewall
remnants.

If that doesn't solve the problem, delete all of the network
components on 98SE and re-install them.

Disabled the firewall and other things (anti-virus, etc) BEFORE doing the
upgrade.
Still having problems.
The SE Network Neighborhood does not even show itself when double-clicking
on the desktip icon Net... Neigh...
The other laptop and the XP main box do not show the SE laptop.

IF I want to reinstall networking, what do you want me to delete and
re-install?
BTW did a SFC and found no errors.
