View Full Version : cannot Hibernate

I recently added an 80 Gb hard disk (Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM) as a slave to my
'C' drive. The entire disk is partitioned as a 'D' drive. My system will no
longer sucessfully go into 'Hibernate' mode, as it did before adding the
disk. After displaying the 'Preparing to go into hibernate mode' message,
the screen powers off, the hard disks begin to shut down, but as they come
to a stop, they instantly power up again and the system returns to the
Windows desktop. I don't see any settings in the Control Panel or System
Devices tab to address this. Any suggestions would be appreciated; I really
like the hibernation mode.
Thanks.

do a search for the file NOHIBER.TXT - see what it has to say about it

While we are on the subject, Noel, why would someone prefer to use
hibernate? I never found it desirable.
Looking up the NOHIBER.TXT file, I found that my hibernation option was
disabled and in order to enable it I woud have to get an updated driver for
my display adapter.
Hope to remember that, just in case.

Harry.

Harry,

Hibernation isn't really of much benefit on desktops but comes into its
own when using a laptop. Helps save power yet the user can get straight
back to work after a short break without having to go through all the
startup rigmarole.

Thanks Mike, I really should have remembered it,
but sure will now.

Harry.
