View Full Version : can't install ezarmour anti-spyware

Gary Roach
January 23rd 06, 03:20 PM
i'm trying to install etrust internet security suite's antispyware program.
i get a W9027 error when i run this in normal mode. in safe mode i get the
following blue screen:

VxD dyanmic link call: C18AD0CC to "0028", serive 800A.

when i click "n" to halt windows i get either:

invalid vxd dynamic link call to device number 28, service 74. your
configuration is invalid. run the windows setup program again to correct the
problem

or

invalid vxd dynamic link call to device number 28, service 800A. your
configuration is invalid. run the windows setup program again to correct the
problem

i've tried doing the overinstall and updating windows but the problem
persists. the support from etrust is useless and i can't find out which
device "device 28" is. any ideas? thanks

Hmmm - have you made sure that you completely uninstalled any previous
anti-virus? (which one was it?)

it was NAV 2002 alone. i went through the manual uninstall procedure -
including going through the registry and removing all keys and values that
referenced "norton" or "symantec". now i get a E9027 error when i try to
install pestpatrol alone in safe mode (which is what the etrust tech support
recommended). any ideas?

Hmmm - it seems that this may be related to a previous Zone Alarm
install?? - does that make any sense?
If so, and you've already removed ZA from the Add/Remove Programs UI, then
you still have some work to do (ZA is as bad as Norton with the amount of
dross it leaves behind)

there's no evidence that zone alarm was ever on this machine. it's not in
the add/remove programs list. i can't find any folders for it on the
filesystem. the only mention of it is in the registry in a key called
HKCR\ZAMailSafe where the default value is "Zone Alarm mailsafe file". but
the default icon is actually an etrust file so i think this was put there by
my attempt to install pestpatrol.
