how do you install windows me after formatting hard drive, have got ME
emergency boot disk but unforturnatley could not get into windows to save any
work any help would be grateful.

The EBD will not allow you to start Windows. If you have already formatted
the hard drive there is no easy way to recover what was on it, there are
utilities that may be able to do so but they are not for the novice.

To install Windows ME you need either a Windows ME install CD or a Windows
ME 1.44 MB diskette set. The EBD is only for emergencies, does not contain,
and cannot run Windows.

....but will allow you to install WinME with the CD
available, wouldn't it?

Yes, but so will the CD. :) (It's bootable.)

Win Me CDs are rarely bootable. I also do not believe that Win Me was
ever released by Microsoft on floppies (boot/setup floppy aside).

If this is an OEM, you could ask the manufacturer to supply Recovery disks.
Probably cost $20 or so.
