On my home network I can access my Windows XP computer
through another computer with Windows XP, but whenever I
tried to access it through Windows 98 it asks for a
password for \\computername\IPC$

How can I stop this from happening?

Greetings Evan,

With Windows XP with Simple File Sharing enabled, make sure that the Guest
account is enabled, on the XP computer (Start - Run - "lusrmgr.msc"). If
you're running Windows XP Pro with simple file sharing disabled, you'll need
to create identical user accounts with non-blank passwords. Create an
identical account on the XP machine that the Windows 98 computer uses. If
you are running Windows XP Pro and are not worried about security, you can
permit a network user without a password. For more details, see the
following link.
