Here's my other lost post
Okay, just downloaded Everest. It added another item:
Microsoft Kernel System Audio Renderer, along with previously mentioned
C-media and Wave Devices. (If this means anything, I sure don't know about
it!)
I DO have an error in "Other Devices"...PCI Universal Serial Bus. It states
that the drivers are not installed. But it won't let me install them.

Thanks

Did you follow Noel's instructions, mrscadillac?
I f you did and still have this error message, you might have some hardware
for which Windows doesn't have any drivers and you would have to utilize the
software which accompanies your specific item. Should you miss it, you will
have to go to the manufacturer's website and find the relevant driver(s), in
order to download and use them.
It's worth a try.

Harry.

Hey Harry. Yes I followed Noel's instructions. Still have no sound. And I
have no idea where to go to look for it. I figure it's got to be something so
simple, but I'm missing it. Maybe my 5 year old will find it. :) Thanks for
your time.

Simple it might be, mrscadillac:
Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Sounds & Multimedia and check the box
'Show Volume Control on the Taskbar'.
See if that helps.

Harry.

Oh yeah, I've done that. But once I'm there, can't do anything else. Where it
says "sound Volume" I can't move the little sliding tab. Clicking on "Audio"
tab, then on Sound Playback for preferred device, it says "No playback
devices". There is no where for me to click on to change this. The advanced
button is "dim", as are all others, so that I cannot click on anything. The
driver for my C-Media WDM Audio Device is "enabled but inactive due to
unknown problem". If I only knew what THAT problem was...........

This invokes several questions, mrscadillac:
1. Do you have onboard sound or a sound card?
2. Did you try un- and reinstall?
3. Maybe it's time for someone with more insight to pick
pick up the tab?

Harry.
