I currently have a D-Link 604+ modem/router, with an XP
home laptop connected.

I connected an old desktop to the router, and it can get
the internet connection, but i cannot get either of the
computers to see the shared hard drives or printers.

Any help would be appreciated

The simplest solution is to run XP's Network Setup Wizard on both
computers, telling it that they connect to the Internet through a
residential gateway (router). It will make all the necessary
settings:

XP ICS - Starting the Network Setup Wizard

I am having the same problem, but when I try to run the
setup wizard it gives me a setup disk to run ofn the WIN98
cimputer. The setup disk will not run, it creates an error
message whicn it says is due to "Restrictions" on the
computer. Any idesa?

I don't know why the setup disk won't run, but you can make the
necessary network settings on WIN98 manually. Go to Control Panel |
Network and:

1. Add these network components if they aren't already present:

TCP/IP protocol
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

2. Remove these network components if they're present:

IPX/SPX protocol
NetBEUI protocol
Client for NetWare networks

3. Set the workgroup name to the same name as the Windows XP computer
uses (default for XP is MSHOME).

4. Reboot.

5. Right click and share any desired disks, folders, and printers.
