Have simple home network. One XP machine, one 98SE
machine connected via D-link router. Followed all
instructions for networking on XP machine first, then ran
the resultant netsetup.exe on 98 machine. Shared drives
and printers. Both are in the same workgroup. Both
machines have an account with same username and password.
XP machine can see and read/write to resources on the 98
machine OK. 98 machine gets prompted for a password when
trying to connect to the XP machine, but always fails with
incorrect password (I know it is the correct password).
The prompt when trying to connect is:
You must supply a password to make this connection:
Resource: \\THINKPAD\IPC$
Password:

Please note that THINKPAD is the computer name for the XP
machine, but I don't understand the IPC$

Please help.

log on to the 98 system using the user name and password
exactly the way you log on to the xp system

Go to the XP machine. Make sure that the XP machine is
set to share files and allow other to make changes to your
files.
I connect two XP PCs with a W98 PC used as a print
server. Both XP machine are setup without passwords.
Instead of typing in a password when originally asked, I
hit an empty return (no password). Once I set the XP
machines to allow sharing of the files and to allow others
to make chaneges, it all worked well.
