Hi I bought a USB flash pen drive. Having Win 98 I had to install the drivers
first and restart the PC before I could connect up the device. After doing so
the standard dialog box opened saying Windows detected a new device and
wanted the drivers for it. The default file location for finding the driver
on the C: drive was c:\windows\system32\drivers. But after searching here the
driver wasn't found. I therefore expanded the search to the whole C: drive.
The driver still couldn't be found. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled
and still nothing, and now the device whilst still registering in the Device
Manager window (with a yellow exclamation box) doesn't open up the detected
new hardware dialog box when I connect up the device.
So I went exploring on the supplied Driver CD to find the driver. I found a
Winzip file called data1.cab. I was pretty sure the driver was here. When I
tried to extract it I get a dialog box saying Winzip can't open the file
because its not in the standard Microsoft CAB format ( as defined as mid
1998). The "signature bytes" required by the Microsoft CAB specification are
missing.
Now this issue might be related or might not be related but could it be that
if I can't extract the file, then maybe the computer can't either. The only
thing is that the installation setup window said that the installation of the
driver was fine with no issues.
Where is this driver?
Can anyone help?
Thanks a lot.
