I have a PnP cd R/RW drive that I bought and installed on
to my Windows 98 computer. Works fins as a CD reader, but
is not recognized by the NERO burning software. Appears as
though the Windows 98 first edition of the Operating System
will not recognize the device as a normal PnP device.

If I use the Device Manager within the My Computer Control
Panel, to change the device driver to the Nero Driver, I am
guessing that the device will then be accessible to burn
CD's with NERO. But my concern is that if it still is not
accessible to burn CD's, can I then return to the original
cd driver identified by Windows 98 to restore the CD read
capability from the drive?

This an ide device, USB, or Firewire?
Have you checked the Nero website?
Have you updated the aspi layer?

To answer your assumptions, no driver is needed for the cd/rw in device
manager. You're digging a deeper hole.
