I have an old PC running 98 with a PS2 mouse connected
via an adaptor into a serial port. I have just updated
the mouse from logitech to Microsoft and now on every
boot up the PC says there is no mouse connected! (and the
connected mouse doesn't work) I have tried it with a
differnt mouse - same problem. I have also tried the tip
of deleting a couple of old logitech files in the
registry but to no avail - any suggestions?

Not all mice will work with a serial port adapter. If the mouse didn't come
with one then it's pretty much guaranteed that you can't.
