View Full Version : Looking For Something (GDI)

Hello again, chums.
I've been having an intermittent problem with blue screens & GPFs in gdi.exe
recently (I blame that crappy v5 update of ZoneAlarm - I had to get shot of
it and re-install the previous version : software companies - don'tcha just
love 'em? Always trying to 'improve' things which don't need it!).
I've read KB 229670, and it looks like the fella. It suggests replacing the
original W98SE versions of gdi.exe & gdi32.dll (4.10.2222) with later ones
(4.10.2223).
Can anyone point me in the direction of a site (or whatever) where I can
download these from?
TIA

Thanks, but I tried that one - it's an earlier version, alas.

If you are having experiencing *precisely* the problem noted in that article
(GPFs in GDI.EXE), you get it the required files exactly where the article
told you to get it--directly from Microsoft by calling for the patch. You
contact MS Support for your region, and ask specifically for that patch
(citing the KB article) and *only* that patch. Providing you don't ask for
any further support, you will not be charged.

If http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=229670 applies, follow the
directions on that page. It's my understanding that if you contact MS
and stick to the specific problem, you won't be charged.
On GDI errors, you might want to investigate video drivers or settings
first. Try a different resolution, turn down hardware acceleration, less
color, updated drivers..
