I have a pc just upgraded to windows xp from windows 98,
now my wndows 98 pcs can't connect to the printer, I get
a IPC$ prompt for a password. I have read the other
posts about adding the user to the xp/2000 pc and that
didn't help. Also we all log onto a windows 2000 small
business server.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on XP to make sure that the networking
components are properly enabled. If the Win98 user gets a logon prompt,
make sure that they do not cancel it.

Sometimes if you toggle the setting to share the printer, that will fix it.
Right-click the printer icon and choose Sharing. Click Do not share this
printer and click Apply. Then click Share this printer and click Apply.
Make sure that the share name is no more than 14 characters and has no
spaces.

See this link for more information and make sure that you followed the steps
exactly to add the user.

If the Win98 user is not getting a logon at Startup, look for Autologon in
the registry. See this article:

No Windows or Network Logon Dialog Box at Startup
