I am a support professional for a banking firm. Here some
of our branches facing problem that, printers are
disappearing from the printer folder at a time in all the
machines. We are having windows 98 client machines and
having Epson DMP and HP laserjet printers. The printer
driver is missing all the pc's at a time and sometimes
after restarting it will come back. Sometimes, I will do
sfc and then scandisk and will restart. Then it will
come. We are having MacAfee antivirus. As per the
technical details from MacAfee, I did the settings on the
exception list of the antivirus, still this problem is
happening.

Anyone can help, as this is a very serious matter

This problem is generally associated with a network or running certain
utilities in the background. Make sure that you have installed the latest
driver available from the manufacturer of your printer.

If you are on a Novell Network, make sure that you have the latest Netware
client for your workstations and that in Network properties, Novell NetWare
Client, Protocol Preferences, make sure that the protocol order lists IPX as
the first protocol.

See these articles from Novell.

If you are using Norton AntiVirus, check for updates. See this article from
Symantec:

Error: "Spool32 error" when printing to a network printer

If you are using McAfee VirusScan, then see this article from McAfee.

Spool32 Errors When Printing After Installing VirusScan on Windows 95, 98
and ME

If the printer is not a local printer, install the printer as a local

printer. Once installed, go to the Printers folder, right-click the printer
icon and select Printer Properties. Click the Details tab and click the Add
Port button. Click to select Other and then click OK. In the Port Name
dialog box, enter the path to the shared Network printer. It will take the
form of \\server\SharedPrinterName.

Print directly to the printer. In the printers folder, right-click the
printer icon and select Printer Properties. Click the Details tab and click
the Spool Settings button. Click to select Print directly to the printer.
