I have 2 of these Dell printers, and I want to use them on
my home system, not just the business laptop I purchased.
Dell says that they don't choose to support Win98.

I have tried downloading the Lexmark 6170 driver, but that
won't install. Any ideas? Thanks

That is absolutely correct. They will ONLY work on Windows 2000 and Windows
XP systems.

Either return them and get something that will work on your Windows98
system, or upgrade your operating systems to XP. It does clearly state on
the Dell website that the printers are NOT compatible with NT, 9x or ME
operating systems.

Linda, Just wondering if you ever found a solution to your A 960 problem. I
ran into the same thing and have not yet found a solution either, other than
updating to windows xp

It's NOT compatible and it WON'T work with ANY 9x system. It clearly states
this both on the box AND on the Dell website. Dell have absolutely no
intention of EVER writing any drivers for discontinued 9x systems for the
A940.

Either:

Upgrade to WindowsXP
or
Return the printer and get something that is compatible with 9x. There are
plenty of multifunction units out there that are fully compatible with 9x.

Hi Linda

I found your post while trying to find the same answer, as you are
probably aware the dell A960 is a Lexmark and I found this on their site.
I have not tried them yet but give them a go.

good luck

Marc
