View Full Version : Win98SE / Lexmark X73 Problem

Greetings fellow printer lovers!!

After reading thru several postings about Lexmark X73 and Win98SE, I get the
impression that it should work fine if everything's set up correctly.
That's a relief to me -- I can handle a little troubleshooting. However, I
have spent some time on the phone with the Lexmark boys in India and their
website, and still can't get it up and running.... (Their final answer is
always "reinstall"... which doesn't work any better.)

First, I checked the USB ports out with other devices and they work fine.
Same for the cable and connections -- all good.

Second, if I leave the USB cable connected and power up the computer, I get
a "will not communicate" error when trying to print. If I leave the cable
disconnected and power up, then at the desktop plug it in, the printer works
fine. However, doing it this way installs a new Lexmark icon in "Printers"
every time. I now have 4 of them there.

The fact that the printer works under some circumstances seems to tell me
that it's an initiation error (?) That's about as far as my computer skills
go. I don't know how to TS it any further.

Well, that's a long story, but I hope it will strike a chord with someone
who can pass along some tips.

Thanks in advance!
