computer passwords

hi, i have a compaq pasarioith windows 98.
I dont know how to explain this but il try and hopefully some one can help
me with this.
when i turn on my computer it ccomes on with a sqaure 3x5 white block that
says enteer password key with a emblem of a key and no matter what i try
nothing will change this.its never happen before.its like really locked up on
this and i dont know how to change it.
ive ask before and the replyies sent me to passwords but if the screen has
nothing to enter a password and nothing will change the screen, then what.
can some one please help because the things they tell me to do you cant.

What is the exact verbiage of the message? When in the boot process does
the message occur? Can you boot in safe mode (rapidly tap the ctrl key
after the ram count on the boot screen is done)?

re. to your answer the only thing it lets me do is turn off and turn on then
the screen say password key with a emblem, so now what do i do for my problem.

Did you consider my suggestion about checking the manual/Compaq tech support
to get rid of the BIOS password that someone has enabled?
